Szijjarto: Hungary and Slovakia will oppose the EU plan to abandon gas from Russia

Hungary and Slovakia are planning to jointly oppose Brussels' plan to stop EU countries from supplying Russian gas. This was stated by the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Economic Relations of Hungary, Peter Szijjarto.

"Close coordination is expected between the two countries," Szijjarno told the Hungarian MTI news agency after a meeting of EU foreign ministers in Warsaw, adding that his Slovak counterpart Juraj Blanar had also "expressed serious objections" to the EC's plan.

According to the Hungarian minister, the European Commission's plan will endanger Hungary's energy security, causing damage to the country's economy of 1.5 billion euros per year, and violate the sovereignty of EU states.

Earlier it was reported that the EC will propose to ban the import of Russian gas by the end of 2027.

At the same time, Western media emphasize that the European Union is facing legal difficulties when trying to stop importing Russian gas.
